Patty and her amazing studio will be featured in an upcoming issue of Where Women Create. You won't want to miss it! In the mean time, here's a little about Patty Young:

I’m asked frequently how I design fabric. My initial thought is to say, “I don’t know. I just do it,” since my process is really organic in nature. But I think it starts with getting inspired. I get inspiration from the travels I’ve made to Europe and Central America, especially the beautiful architecture and art I’ve seen. My youth as a child growing up in Costa Rica inspires me as well and that Latin influence is evident in the bold color statements I like to make with my fabric. But I‘d say my biggest source inspiration, one that comes constantly and unexpectedly, is my children. A lot of my designs work well for kids and that comes from wanting to make pretty things for my children to wear and play with. As long as you have the inspiration that gives you something to say and the passion to create art that is suitable for use in the medium of textile, you have what you need to design fabric.

I can honestly say I really love what I do. I was born to create and as far back as I can remember I’ve always wanted to be an artist.  It’s a lot of work and it wears me out but I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else. I always fear there isn’t enough time to get everything done I want to which definitely stresses me out at times. But it’s all worth it as I get a thrill from seeing the finished products and getting feedback from fans making their own creations from my fabric and patterns. But it’s more than that. I really thrive on the process of discovery and creating. Ralph Waldo Emerson’s quote, “Life is a journey, not a destination” sums it up for me.

We'd like to thank Patty Young and MODKID designs both for being a part of Where Women Create and for such a generous donation! Please visit Patty at www.modkidboutique.com or her blog at www.modkidboutique.blogspot.com
