Jeanne shares …

"My grandfather was from Denmark and every year at Christmas a large package would arrive from his relatives. This package was not opened until after dinner on Christmas Eve.
The anticipation was always so exciting for everyone, but especially for us children. Of course, Christmas dinner seemed to drag on for an eternity and then the table had to be cleared and the dishes washed. I do believe the adults were purposely trying to torture us!
Finally we would get to go to the living room and grandpa would s-l-o-w-l-y open the package from Denmark. There were all sorts of goodies for everyone including marzipan candy, Jule Nissen santas, Danish flag garlands, paper woven heart ornaments, Royal Copenhagen Christmas plates and figurines – which I have in my own home now as pleasant reminders of those memorable Christmases of the past. We continue the tradition to this day, by wrapping up presents for my 98 year old aunt and mailing them off to her in Texas. And she does the same in return for us. The gifts aren't elaborate or expensive. It's the anticipation and carrying on the long standing tradition that's so important to all of us. Here's hoping that your Christmas is filled with wonderful memories and traditions!"

It’s always fun to learn about others special traditions at the holidays. Two years ago we started having The 4 weeks of Christmas. We get together once a week in December and eat or go to a concert or movie or play a game of monopoly and at each meeting exchange a gift each. This was my idea to get to see more of my kids after they left me with an empty nest. Of course, the gift at each meeting, was the bait for the kids and we have had so much fun doing this. Thanks so much for the giveaway. ms.cheryl
