Hi ladies! I'm Sara Duckett, owner of Sadie Olive, and I am so honored to be here. I began Sadie Olive in 2007 while still working in the mortgage industry as an underwriter. Owning my own business had always been a dream of mine, and it wasn't until I was inspired by a magazine like "Where Women Create" that I finally made an attempt to put that dream into motion. I instantly popped up from the sofa, threw down the magazine, and ran straight to my computer to start my first online business. It was a bit slow going in the beginning, but blogging and networking with shop owners really helped me along. When I was laid off from my mortgage job in August that year, I searched for new full time work with no luck, and then an email came through to me that changed my path completely. It was a friend asking to hire me to design her blog. My wheels starting spinning and I saw a new way to keep Sadie Olive open. I immediately added web and blog design services to the shop, and thankfully managed to stay afloat.
Sadie Olive has now grown into three branches. Our online retail boutique, where we sell new and "vintage inspired" home decor and accessories. Our design site, where we offer blog, web and graphic design services. And our vintage shop on Etsy, where we sell only vintage finds. I also dabble a bit in photography, but sadly I'm finding less and less time for it these days.
Here's a peek at things you'll find in our online boutique:
My schedule is a bit hectic at times, trying to find time for everything, but I manage to find time to treasure hunt twice a week, most weeks. Sourcing items for the shops has to be my favorite part of the job. Here's a sampling of some of our more recent vintage finds for our Etsy shop:
I try to hunt for items that I would want to adorn my home, and sometimes (before they sell) they do! I love to rearrange my collections as often as I can, and when I find something I just love, I make a commitment to sell something I already owned in order to keep my house looking uncluttered. Otherwise, you might find me on an upcoming episode of Hoarders. Ha! My family loves to tease me about my collecting since it's usually all over the place when they stop by. "It has to stay in the waiting area before being photographed for the shop", I tell them. :o)
Being self employed feels like living in a dream. I love that I get to do what I do, and I adore when people are as excited about their purchase as I was about finding it. There is a sense of satisfaction I still get with every order I receive. It's been a dream come true for me.
And now on to the good stuff!
This week we are giving away to one lucky "Where Women Create" reader, a beautiful French country tablecloth by Comptoir de Famille. Valued at $60, this generously oversized square tablecloth is 70" x 70" in red, cream and blue. (We manage to use one on our rectangle table, but it's a tad short on the long sides.) 100% cotton, and machine washable. Simply leave a comment on this post to enter.
Good luck to all of you! Oh, and since it's Black Friday, I have to tell you that we are having a 15% off sale in our shops. Simply use code "BLACKFRIDAY" at checkout.

Awesome tablecloth, and it’ll go wonderfully in our new home.
What a lovely tablecloth and, especially, like the fact you don’t mind it not being a perfect fit. People who want life perfect, stump me. Change and not perfect are the two most guaranteed things in life. -smile-
What a wonderful story, I hope that your business grows by leaps and bounds. I love the tablecloth it my colors and style. I also love the imperfect fit, I have a tablecloth that was my Mother’s, it’s square, I used it on my rectangle table for Thanksgiving Dinner yesterday. So your description today just makes me smile.
I’m a follower of this blog & Sarah’s, Sadie Olive, & LOVE them both!
