My daughter, Meg, and I are so thrilled to be attending The Creative Connection event to share with you one of our most basic necessities in life—the making of bread. Taking inspiration from our Historic Barron Flour Mill in Oakesdale, Washington, on the National Registry of Historic Places, we chose bread making because it is the staple of American households.
Come share an amazing weekend with us and many wonderful teachers at the event’s “MaryJanesFarm Day” as they share with you ideas for party planning, vegan recipes, cheese making, dessert as art, and food as medicine. Oh how excited I would be. Since I’ve become disabled in 2008…I’ve started making things to make ends meet. Painting old wooden windows, making jewelry…anything. Being a stay at home mother of four girls, I love to make different craft projects for my girls.We have a small garden with veggies and flowers, they love to help me in. It also teaches them that everything pretty or tastes good don’t always have to come from a mall or grocery store. I think its very important to teach children different crafts to do on there on. When I first started reading Mary Jane’s blog I had every intention to order her magazine and uhhh, it is with a long face and a bit of humbleness, I admit that I forgot. The magazine looks awesome and would be a great encouragement to hubz and me on our road to more nutrition, better choices and smaller portions of what we are eating. We are not planning on going vegan but we both do admit to feeling better and even more alert. We have been doing this for a month and up until today I have felt better then I had in years. I am losing weight pretty fast but it has to be healthy because I can’t eat all the food they want me too, but I do. The 20 pounds I have lost took away 2 dress sizes and to say the least, I am thrilled. To wear a size ** again is almost surreal for me.

I love this magazine! In the last few years my life has changed because of health problems. The magazine has inspired me to find a way to garden again. This spring my husband built me a raised garden bed that is tall enough so I can stand and garden. I feels so good to do something”normal”.

You mentioned baking bread in your post and now all I can think of is the smell of bread coming from our kitchen when I was a kid. My mom used to let the bread rise in my brother’s bedroom of all places because that’s where it was the warmest in the winter and where she probably thought I wouldn’t look for it – I always sampled the yeasty dough -I luv homemade bread !!!

This was by far one of my favorite highlights at the WONDERFUL conference by meeting this most amazing woman!!! She is a pioneer for all of us trying to figure out how to go back to what is good (and healthy) and I hope many will catch on to her lead!!!!
