Zack and I have only been married a couple years (awww :] ) and since we're currently living in Minnesota and our families are in Michigan, we haven't had the chance to start our own traditions. However, our moms have given us some of our childhood ornaments, along with some family ornaments, and so our tree is decorated with these memories. We really love decorating the house at night with Christmas music playing — it's something we both get excited about! This year we have a little pup, Bauer, and he's making things so much more merry & bright. Merry Christmas! xoxo

The holiday season is always full of traditions – favorite things to eat, do and go. It’s so hard to pick just one. I have many favorites from childhood and now new traditions with my family, but if I had to choose just one it would be sitting down on Christmas Eve under the light of the Christmas tree watching a favorite holiday movie. It used to be A Christmas Carol but since Polar Express came out that has been the movie of choice. I can already hear the train whistle!

My family and I have a fun tradition that we have been doing for the last 20 years….. during the Thanksgiving holiday the adults: my brother and his wife, my husband and I and my parents draw each others' names out of a hat for "Stocking Secret Santas." Once you have your name, you get about four weeks to hunt and gather wonderful items, some funny, some serious – whatever you want. The only rule is that you have to MAKE the stocking "vessel." You should see some of the stockings thaty we have seen over the years – many people work off of a theme – it has become extremely competitive. One year, my husband built an 8 foot gianormous Santa's boot, out of chicken wire and paper mache which he managed to hide in the garage for days. You may not share the name of your recipient until Christmas morning. Now that the grandchildren are older, they are always trying to coax names and have become great participants in the hunting, gathering and secrecy – which teaches them that the magic of the season doesn't end when you grow up!
