Bamboletta Dolls
Bamboletta means little doll in Italian and is a term of endearment that parents use for their children.
This was my father’s nickname for me throughout my childhood.
We take great pride and care to use only the finest materials available to me in making these dolls. I use a wonderful thick cotton interlock from the Netherlands for their ‘skin’. I have tried many, many fabrics out there and this is by far the most superior in quality. It hardly pills, it retains its shape and it is oh so soft. I know it may seem a bit excessive to be going on and on about my doll fabric, but it really is fantastic.The wool I use is sourced right here in Canada from farms that treat their animals very well and use gentle and eco friendly methods in the cleaning and carding of the wool. The next step in the dolls is their hair. I am a self proclaimed yarn addict. I love nothing better then to rummage through yarn shops to find new and interesting yarns for my dolls hair. I have my own source of gorgeous handspun, handdyed yarn that I use in some of my dolls create a unique and special look. I most often mix several types of yarns together to create a natural and funky look – highlights and all! There is a practical reason for my mixing as well, the dolls hair can withstand much more handling. If just a soft yarn or mohair is used alone the hair tends to matte.
I have wonderful, amazing people working with me making each Bamboletta special and unique. Without them this wouldn’t be happening! There are now 16 of us sewing and knitting – creating dolls with much love – usually with our own little ones running around at our feet! One of our goals is to be able to provide as many moms with work and paying them well for work that requires dedication and a very calloused thumb! We work out of a studio in Vancouver Island in a little town called Cobble Hill.

Once upon a time there was a little girl that loved to collect treasures. Not just any treasures though, she loved to collect empty make up bottles and samples! Before long this little girl decided to set up shop selling her treasures to all of the other neighborhood little girls. Unfortunately, the other Mommy’s did not approve of their daughters raiding their piggy banks for “junk”, and alas, her store was forced to close.
However this sparked a dream in the little girl to someday have her very own shop where she could have all sorts of lovely things.

The Cottage Mama
Hi, my name is Lindsay from The Cottage Home! I am a stay-at-home Mom raising three children under the age of four (two girls and a baby boy) and I am married to my high school sweetheart. I am living the dream in total domestic bliss and, yes, I doreally live in a cottage. I started The Cottage Home blog back in October 2009 due to much encouragement from my friends. I wasn’t exactly quite sure what this blog would be about or where it might take me. All I knew was that I wanted to share my ideas, thoughts, and knowledge with others. So here I am and I think the title says it best – Cooking. Sewing. Crafting. And All Things Domestic. In a nutshell, that’s what you’ll find here on The Cottage Home.
Family is central to my life and it is through the items I create that I show them my love. I believe in the handmade lifestyle, whether I am creating clothing for my children, a nice home for us to live in, or delicious food to fill our bellies – it is through creating where I feel most at home. I am trying to instill this way of living in my children and hope to inspire others to do the same. In addition to The Cottage Home blog, I own an online boutique clothing store called The Cottage Mama. Through The Cottage Mama I sell unique, one-of-a-kind handmade children’s apparel and accessories. Most of my sewing takes place during naptime or in the evenings, but every so often I get lucky and get a little sewing time during the day. Most recently I have launched a line of children’s sewing patterns (see below) that are also available for purchase through my etsy shop. There will be many more released in the next year, so check back for new designs. It takes a lot of time, energy, planning and patience to balance being a mommy, wife, small business owner and blogger, but I love it all and couldn’t be happier! My favorite ornament is the Santa Claus that goes on top of our tree. I can’t help but smile everytime I look at him.
My mother makes each member of the family a Christmas stocking. Mine was the first she made 40 years ago. She is working on getting the one for my 2 year old done before this years celebrations. Definitely my favorite.
The family story goes that my Dad kept putting his baby rattle on their tree when he was a little guy as he “helped” to decorate it, to the point where he wanted it put away with the ornaments at the end of the season. It has stayed a Christmas decoration in the family ever since, and now has a place of honor on my tree.

My favorite decoration currently is the ornament my husband and I bought on our honeymoon at Disney World :)
All the lights inside and outside that are displayed.
When my mother was newly married, she made several ornaments out of eggshells- the shell cut in half long ways, the outside covered in felt, and a little holiday diorama on the inside. Only a few survived decades of moves, kids, and animals. She gave one to me and my sister for our won trees. Mine is has a little deer, kneeling on a cottonball snow. I adore it.

I love lights… the lights on homes and trees, in yards. I love the candles, and firelight… everything aglow in seasonal warmth and brightness.
My favorite holiday decoration is a linked chain that I made with my Mom and my brother when we were little. I remember that we were in grade school and we helped cut the material and use the iron to fuse 2 pieces of material together. Once that was all done the fun part started – it is when we looped and linked them all together. I still have the chain 35 years later!
Ok I know this is basic but my favorite decoration are the Christmas lights we string up. I love them..Something magical about those lights.

I don’t have a favorite at this time since I lost everything in a fire last year. My old favorite was a glass bird that my Grandma had as a child, or all the snowflakes my other Grandma crochet for all her Grandkids.

I would have to say the Christmas tree when it is lit up at night, and we turn off all the other lights in the room!
All of my life my family has done something a bit different for Christmas. Instead of having a tree we’ve set up a cross (as a symbol of why we really celebrate Christmas) and decorated it with greenery, lights and ornaments. Some people would say it’s not as pretty as a tree and they may be right but I’ve always loved it and think it’s just beautiful!!! :)
My favorite decoration is my handmade feather tree (pretty proud because I made it myself) and on it i hang my glass ornaments I got on a trip to Germany. Decorating it always puts me in the Christmas spirit.
Good morning, My favorite decoration is a very old tree ornament that I’ve held on to from my Mom’s collection. It’s a plastice diamond shaped ornament with a fuzzy candy cane inside. It’s all worn out and kind of run down, but I treasure it. Reminds me of my childhood at Christmas, and the real wonder of the season.
I love all the hand-blown glass ornaments we have but i love the look that the electric candles we have in each of our windows cast from the street! and this is a fabulous giveaway, by the way!!!
My favorite holiday decoration is still at my mothers house. Necessity in the depression and war years had made my stoic grandmother, a bit of a creator out of necessity. She made tin can ornaments from the lids of her cans, which still adorn my mothers tree, but my favorite ‘creative ornament’ of hers is a miniature Christmas Tree, Flocked, and decorated with old bits of Jewelry, pins, earrings missing their mates etc. My mother took the tree a bit further, and created a miniature scene around it, with vintage trikes, packages, and tiny porcelain dolls whose real hair ringlets were created on toothpicks they are so tiny. It’s a bit of multi generational creative effort, started by my grandmother, and kept alive and augmented by my mother. I love seeing it every year – I love the fact it was born out of necessity and hardship, but contains such beauty.
My Mommom had this ceramic Christmas tree and I loved it so much.
I bought a little resin sign that says Merry Christmas and is like a small banner shaped perfectly to fit over my clock in the kitchen. I bought this from a resale shop years ago for less than $1. But it is always the first decoration I hang and everyone in the house will say “Christmas is officially starting…Mom hung the sign”. This cheap little decoration has become a real family treasure and tradition.
My favorite Christmas decoration is my Christmas tree skirt. I made it when I was first married, and still its my favorite. Quilted by my grandma, it just adds to the emotion of it.
The Christmas tree! Mine has so many special ornaments that mean so much to me. I look forward to seeing them again each year!
My favorite holiday decoration is the homemade advent calendar that my MIL made for my children. Each day adds a new item to the little Nativity set.

My favorite holiday decoration is actually 3 and not just one. I have a glass bird with missing tail feathers that I clip on the tree that I inherited from my Grandmother and then there is a snow angle and a moose, each bought by my children when they were very young. Ohhhhhh! I am hope hope hoping for this amazing prize! I have a vintage crocheted nativity scene that my grandfather gave me. It’s great because it isn’t fussy and I don’t have to worry about the kids touching it. It is my most special holiday decoration.

i have popcorn chains on my christmas tree – they alternate a few popcorns with a cranberry colored wooden bead… the chains are a few years old, but as long as you don’t nibble on them, you wouldn’t notice!!
My favorite decoration is my collection of hand-painted Santas. About 10 years ago it was easy to find plain resin Santas-to-paint in craft stores. They are quite detailed and I had so much fun painting them! Now they are so hard to find, so I am thrilled to have the ones that I do. They make me smile every year when I unpack them!

My favorite Christmaas decorations would have to be the table settings. We moved in with my in-laws last year and they have a huge dining room table that seats all of us. Each holiday we decorate it to suit the occasion and always try to make it different each time. It is so much fun to take the ornaments and baskets we have in the house and display the in a new way for the holidays. Thanks for the cahncce to win!

My favorite holiday decoration is a black and white painting of a snowman my son made when he was 4. It hangs front and center every year (he is now 10)! I Love it!
My second favorite is the new wall sized tree we cut out and color each year! My husband is allergic to pine so this has been our solution for the past 3 years! We all love that time together creating out new christmas tree each year!

I love my silver metal pop up tree. It is so modern, yet old fashioned and funky. And the husband loves it because all you do is pop it up and it is ready. No lights no branches.
I love to put out all my Snoopy and Peanuts collection,But the most favorite and maybe most treasured is a small 3 inch glitter santa claus my son gave me almost 30 years ago.We made many moves while we were a Military Family, and lost a lot of things while moving,but this little Santa somehow made it through all the years.He is always hanging up for Christmas.

This is the second time I got so excited that I didn’t answer the question correctly, my tree is my favorite decoration…I bring out all of my memories and hang them up!
The wooden advent calendar (a house with windows) we put up every year. It was a treasured present from my mother and father in law.
My grandmother had these very old, antique, icicle decorations that that hang on the tree. When I was little, we would go to her house and turn out the lights and wait for them to begin glowing in the dark. It was the old-fashioned way of having a “lit” christmas tree. I love those decorations, and now love to see them at my mom’s house for Christmas.
Oh my, another tough question. I think my village is my favorite.. all lit up under the tree. Of course, my tree is up there in favorites as well as my nativity and my kneeling santa figurine.Then there are all my snow globes.. though…

My favorite Holiday decoration would have to be the Christmas Tree. The lights and the leaves just take me back to being a little kid. I love the ambiance that it gives off and the presents underneath arent bad either!
I just can’t narrow it down to one… Mine would be our mouse advent calendar, our light up snowman and woman, and our light up house. These are all decorations from Avon and all of the women in my family have them, my mom, grandmother, and aunts. They are no longer made so when I got my first apartment we scoured Ebay and the internet so that I too could have the tradition of the calendar, snow people, and house. Each time my son moves the mouse in the calendar I smile because my brother and I used to fight over who got to move him each day when we were little. I love looking at my decorations and thinking about all of the special women in my life that nurtured and helped make me who I am today.
Hi! My favorite ornament is actually a pair of antique baseball players that my grandma gave over 20 years ago when I had my 2 boys. When I look at them I think of her!

oops hit post before answering the question my favorite ornament is a clear glass ball filled with broken shards of my grandmothers shinybright ornaments that broke when our tree fell one year while i was recovering from cancer surgery & had pneumonia… it was a bad time physically and i was devastated at the loss of my treasured ornaments but the idea of picking up the broken pieces of these ornaments inspired me that even if they/i am changed physically they/i am still here. God used that to boost me and i remember it each year as i hang that ornament on the tree
I would have to say that my favourite Holiday Decoration would have to be my vintage silver aluminum Christmas tree. I found it at the thrift store, each individual branch was till wrapped in tissue paper! $5.00!!! (big smile)
My favorite is the ornament! I have ornaments from my childhood, my kids’ ornaments and special ornaments given to me through the years! They all find a place of honor on our Christmas tree every year.
It’s has to be the Santa robe for my tree. It consists of a jolly Santa’s head, the size of a human, which goes over the top of the tree and then the robe flows from his head all the way down to the floor. It’s a beautiful deep green with a touch of gold print, trimmed in a faux mink fur and it covers 2/3 of the tree. Than I have a 5 foot elf that sits up against the tree and I always put a wrapped package in his hands. I just have to add ornaments to the front 1/3 of the tree. The theme is red, green & brown w/a touch of gold. Hard to describe, but very pretty & unique.
The first thing I think of when I think of Christmas decorations is the tree…and second is wreaths and other trimmings scenting the air with fresh green loveliness!
A probably tacky, possibly retro china figurine that was my grandmother’s. It is a candy cane with 3 little elves riding on it and says “Merry Christmas.” It reminds me of my childhood visits at the holidays to their house. My children love it now. It sits high up…it has made it for a long time without breaking and I hope for many more years too!

My favorite ornament is one that was given to me by my grandmother. It is a handmade felt Swedish dancer. It is so vintage and dear.
My favorite decoration is a clay sign that says peace. It makes me feel calm.
My favorite decoration are the handmade tree ornaments my family makes every year. Our tree is so full of these ornaments, it’s kind of good a few of the kids are grown up and off to college… they can take their ornaments and decorate their trees with them! I, of course will always keep my favorites for the “family tree”.
So many favorites, it’s hard to choose one. On the top of the list though would be the silver bells my girls and I display each Christmas. It is one gift I give to them each year and even though they are young moms, they still wait in anticipation of what each bell looks like.
My favorite ornaments are the ones that are worn, older – the ones that carry memories with them. I also collect “Father Christmas” type ornaments which my hubby adds to each year.
My favorite holiday decoration is the tiny colored lights. I love to pull the blinds and turn all the lights off except for the christams tree and sit and bask in all the gorgeous twinkly lights with a hot cup of spiced chocolate tea, mmmmmm.

My fav is an ornament from Hallmark that was from my childhood tree, early 70′s.
My favorite holiday decoration is definitely our Christmas tree. The scent, the feel in the air when we bring home a freshly cut tree from a local farm is like nothing else. We then cover the tree with handmade trinkets and personalized ornaments that leave it looking one of a kind. Both of my babies loved being rocked by the tree as newborns and it still soothes them at 3 and 5. Lovely giveaway – thank you!

i love putting up my grandparents old ornaments- one red glass ball and the other the ornament my parents gave them to announce my pending arrival!
I have two. One is the advent calendar our neighbors gave me in 1958 and the other is a leaded glass votive holder that my Gram made about 1970. Both are the first decorations out.

My favorite Christmas decoration is our tree all decorated. We have ornaments from 5 generations up. Not all are fancy or expensive but all have a story to go with them and represent the love of the season.
My favorite holiday decoration is a piece of felt that has a tree made of handprints. My Middle son made it when he was 3 in preschool, and even though he has only aged 2 years since then I can assure you that I will treasure it for YEARS to come!

Simplicity and fond memories should be at the heart of all holiday celebrations, and handmade, child-made goodness really speaks to that. There is trend in my neighborhood this year of erecting life-sized semi-robotic Santa mannequins, and every time I turn a corner my heart is in my throat because I think they’re real people! Compared to that, there’s something quite refreshing about coffee filter snowflake :-)
I love snowmen, so I would have to say those & especially the one that used to belong to my Mom:-)
I was born in Germany (dad was in the army) & a man in a German shop gifted a little bunny ornament to me (presumably because I was such a cute baby). It holds such special meaning; my first ornament, it’s from where I was born, and reminds me of the kindess of strangers.

My favorite Christmas decorations are those that are made by our loved ones. Little hand prints in clay from the young ones, popcorn strings made by the older. Commercial ornaments are beautiful but they cant bring you back in time like the ones made by little hands.

My most beloved christmas decoration is little stuffed animal. He is a small brown scotty dog that has “guarded” our christmas tree since I was a child. A few years ago my mother wrapped him up and gave him to me as a gift. When i unpack my christmas decoration he always evokes a squeal and a hug. My children are now enjoying his protection and move him around under the tree… I love having another generation of small people lovin on him :)
My favorite holiday decoration this year is the little Elf we got for the kids. His name is Christopher Pop-in-Kins and he has a similar purpose to the Elf on a Shelf. My kids love seeing where he is and what he is up to each morning.

My favorite is the lights on the Christmas tree. I love to turn off all the lights and just sit and enjoy the lights on the tree and a nice cozy fire!
I love the tree, the wreaths, the fresh spruce candles, the ornaments and everything red, green and glittery, but my absolute favorite decoration for Christmas is when we take out our holiday stockings. I have lots of beautiful vintage Santa decorations that I put throughout the house but nothing compares to our stockings. My husband’s stocking was made by a neighbor for him when he was just a boy. It is adorable and when I see it, I can just picture him as a boy, excited for Christmas Day. My stocking was handmade for me by my Godmother when I was a toddler. She has passed now and seeing it brings back so many happy memories. I have two small children and they just received their stockings, handmade with love by Grandma. My favorite part is knowing they will use these stockings for their entire lives with lots of fun memories included.
The holiday decoration I look most forward to is our Angel Christmas tree topper. We have had her ever since my husband’s and my first Christmas together. Ten years later she still graces the top of our tree every year. To me she reminds me of our love and how it has only grown over the years with our son and daughter and each other.

I have two favorite decorations… one is a huge advent calendar that my aunt made for my mom when we were kids… you have to move the bear around to different places in the house looking for “christmas” , each day the bear has a different place to look. My aunt must have spent hours sewing the little sequins onto it. I have so many memories of my brother and I arguing over who got to move the bear to places like the chimney, or the skating rink etc.
My other favorite decoration is also handmade… it was my very first ornament when I was born. It is very fragile, as it is half an egg with a little scene inside with a little baby girl :)

I think my favorite is her green ceramic chirstmas tree that she made when I was little that has all the different colored lights…oh, and anything my girls have made at school over the years. My favorite holiday decoration is our ceramic musical church that someone threw away to the curb. My husband and I happened to be driving by and I saw a box and out of it was a beautiful vintage white ceramic church that plays “walking in a winter wonderland”.. It has a couple teeny tiny christmas lights missing but it’s just beautiful.. really!
My favourite holiday decoration is the Poinsetta. Every year my grandpa would gift my grandma with the most beautiful blooming Poinsetta he could find, and now that I have a home and a family of my own he brings me one too.
I grew up with a little owl on the top of my Christmas tree, and when I moved out on my own, I found my own owl to adorn the top of my Christmas tree! It’s my favorite decoration – it’s while and very realistic looking, and it just ‘makes’ my tree! :)
My nativity set – it is crystal and my husband bought it for me the first Christmas we lived in our new house.
Anything my children have made gets pride of place over any shop bought decoration :-). However the decorations are not complete until the wreath is on the door.

My favorite Christmas Decoration is my 94 year old grandmothers small Manger, It is barely staying together and the pieces are starting to fade away. It seems it is barely staying together or hanging by its last thread. But it just reminds me of hanging out underneath her Christmas tree when I was little playing with all the pieces.
I will forever keep it, even when it finally completely falls apart.

My favorite Christmas decoration is my Lladro nativity set. Each year since we got married my husband buys me one new piece We started with the entire Holy Family, but nothing else. We are almost complete now. But I love that we built it year to year so that each piece is extra special. This year was a shepherd girl. :)

My favorite holiday decoration is a very unimpressive, squished up, wreath. It looks like a truck ran it over at this point, but we can not toss it.
Its just an ordinary fake wreath my children made for the Christmas of ’08. Their father, my husband, was deployed for his first deployment. The kids put it together with such love, not much beauty, hah, but very heartfelt. When he came home a few months later he brought it back with him and we’ve used it every year since, and we always will.
Glad to have the wreath AND him back.

Every year my Mother makes handmade ornaments for the family, I try to purchase ornaments during vacations and special outings, and we have received so many wonderful ornaments as gifts. Every year, when decorating the tree, it is a trip down memory lane. Lots of laughter, come tears, and great stories!
Our favorite Christmas decoration is a porcelain Angel ornament my grandmother made for me many years ago. It has this lovely note attached to it from her to me:

My favorite Christmas decoration is our tree, I think. It may look jumbled to the untrain eye, but it is covered in years of Christmas memories, including keepsakes from places we’ve been, and ornaments crafted by our kids. Now that my youngest is five, it is wonderful to watch her face light up with the joy of decorating “the most perfect tree of the world!”.

My favorite christmas decoration is my grandma’s christmas village.. It is those old fashioned paper houses and metal figurines. There is skaters and skiiers and sledders. I used to love helping set it up when I was little and I still do!
We always gather up cedar branches and pine cones to decorate thru out the house so every room smells like Christmas. Copious amounts of gingerbread cookies do not hurt either.

I love my children’s advent calendars! The cards they pull out each morning describe something special we will do together that day, bake cookies, make paper snowflakes for the windows, deliver gifts to the neighbors and the such. The advent calendars are four foot tall elves, one boy with overalls on and a girl in a dress. The clothing each one wears is covered in little numbered pockets, 1 to 25. Bringing these out each year marks the beginning of the Christmas season right after Thanksgiving!

My all-time favorite decoration is a miniature glass Christmas tree with tiny glass ornaments! My mother always had one when I was little and the two of us actually found and purchased another one at a mall kiosk in Montana about 10 years ago. The children love it as much as I loved my mother’s and although they are all very wild, they handle the tree and ornaments very gently.

My apologies, I thought it asked what was your favorite holiday….I missed the word “decoration” Our favorite decoration is the Christmas Tree. We always have the kids help and decorate it. It is a really important tradition that we do together as a family!!
My favourite is our family nativity scene which, besides the most important characters, also contains numerous animals and decorative touches, old heirloom pieces from my grandmother’s family, newer items my other bought over the decades, animals my siblings and I added…it’s a work in progress and it’s beautiful!
My Favorite Christmas decoration is the top portion of my tree, its where I keep my kids (3 of them) hand made ornaments. There are paper mittens with glitter and googly eyes, there is a blown out and painted egg with a cotton ball on the bottom, there are several styrofoam balls that have been cut in half painted by them and a picture of them glued to the flat side. There are felt peas, and gingerbread babies with waldorf doll faces… I save them for last right before the star, and I tell them what each one means to me.
Always the handmade ones my kids bring home from school. It’s wonderful to look back and see how they’ve grown as little artists through the years.

My most treasured holiday “decoration” is our Advent Calendar of books.We unwrap a Christmas book every day and read it as a family.The wrapped books waiting to be opened make our mantle seem so festive! It truly gives us the Christmas spirit.
My favorite Christmas decoration is the set of bells handmade from tiny pinecones wired together by my aunt who lived in Maine. She made these when I was a little girl and they were so special to me throughout my growing up years. They made up a swag that we strung across a doorway, but I also had my own special bell.
When I was a little girl my grandma created hand made, felt, ornaments of Santa and Mrs. Claus. We gave them to our teachers, friends, and neighbors. I was always so proud to give something my “Nanny” had made. When I went away to college I received a wreath in the mail with several hand sewn ornaments from Nanny. I hung it on my door and felt Christmassy and closer to my family. Now, every year when I pull out my little felt ornaments I think of Nanny, who is no longer with us, and of the love we shared.

Wow, what an amazing give away!! My favorite decoration is so tiny but means oh so much! My 3rd baby girl was born 2 years ago and I named her after my mother and grandmother, Cleo. My grandmom was the typical grandmother..you know, the one that pinches your cheeks and just poured so much love onto all of us children. When my Cleo was born my grandmother was in the hospital, well, really hospice..and so I was determined to make the 4 hour trip with my newborn to see her and let her see her new great granddaughter, Cleo…well, I came down with a horrible infection and could not get out of bed, and sadly my grandmother died a week later. I know we will see each other again one day, but a few months later as we were going through her house and cleaning out attics I found a Christmas ornament she had made when she was little…a little stocking with her name, “cleo” stiched on it….it hangs on top of the tree so my little ones can only admire, not touch…but it means sooo much to me and my family.
My favorite decoration is the Christmas Pyramid. It is a hand made woodcarved pyramid of a manger scene, angels and the shepherds that turns with candle light. It reminds me of Germany and is a piece of art.

My favorite is actually something at my mom’s house. It’s a beautiful hand-painted ceramic nativity scene made by an Aunt when I was a child. It’s done in rich sepia tones and looked like an antique even when it was brand new. That set would now be 30-something years old and is just as lovely now as it was then.

What a great giveaway!!! Thank you to all for the generosity! I wish I did just have one favorite holiday decoration. I have managed to narrow it down to just two. When my children were babies I made clay impressions of their tiny little chubby feet for the tree. I love to see those every year, it brings back memories of them as babies. Also these fabric trees I made for two years in a row that all started when I had to stay home with my son well he was recovering from surgery. He had to have the same surgery two years in a row, both right before Christmas. So we started the tree project to keep us busy at home and they became an instant hit with family and friends. My son had two tumors removed and is well and happy now. I look at those trees now and it reminds me of how blessed I am to have him healthy and happy to enjoy. Maybe it isnt even the decorations themseleves but the memories that come with them.

My favorite decoration is a Christmas carousel that my father-in-law bought me many years ago (when my husband and I were dating). I’ve had it for over 20 years and I love how excited my kids get when we open the box. When I first received it, I imagined the scene that I now witness: my children’s eyes lit up as they watch the horses go around and around and up and down. It is magical.

My favorite decoration has to be my white christmas tree. I had always had a real tree growing up and loved them. My husband always had a fake tree and wanted us to have one too. The only way I would agree is if it was a white tree. I feel in love at first sight!

My absolute favorite Christmas decoration is… Well Christmas is my favorite… I love the tree, the stockings, the wreaths, the advent calendar, and the smells of cranberry spice… But if I have to pick one thing… It would be the tray with hot coco and cookies that santa will get for Christmas Eve!! my favorite decoration are my kissing angles. They have been my favorite my whole life as my mother had them and gave them to me. I remember as a kid my sister and I always fighting on who got to put them out and make them kiss
My favorite holiday decoration is an ANGEL of any kind. I like to see them all year round but particularly love using them in holiday schemes in my home ..and, of course, seeing everyone else’s. I have about 10 that I have on display all the time….hope I win today!
before i could speak, i was given a tiny owl ornament no bigger than a baby’s fist. i don’t know who gave it to me, and have no recollection of the occasion. it was brown plastic with feathers layered over it and two amber eyes. it had plastic-covered wire talons that could be delicately twisted to fit over a branch.
i held the owl in my hand every christmas, making it perch on my finger and preening it with clumsy hands. one year it lost an eye. it has lost many feathers and one leg broke the first year i fell in love.
the ornament is still my favorite. each time i see it on my mother’s tree i’m blanketed with peace and a sense of continuity, of things being right. it’s not exactly an heirloom, but the love it represents is what i most hope to pass down to my children.
we would love to win – this is a rough year for us financially with both my husband and i searching for jobs in a terrible economy. this would make the holidays super special for us. pippa would fit in so well in our doll-loving home, and with two girls i could definitely put those patterns to excellent use. the pin would be an awesome christmas gift for me since i’m not expecting much this year – the little we have is going to our girls. and the ornament – it looks like one that would end up treasured forever, maybe even to be written about by my own girls one day.

My favorite decoration is the ornament my sister sent me for my son’s first Christmas, & his name is spelled incorrectly. He’s now almost 30 & I still chuckle every time I hang it on the tree.
We have a knitted spider that used to be part of a set with a Little Miss Muffet doll (and tuffet) made by my granny. Doll & tuffet are long gone but the spider remains- and now sits proudly under the angel on tree every year. It makes me laugh every year and adds a touch of whimsy to our decorations!

My favorite Christmas decoration is a nativity set which belonged to my husband’s great-grandmother. It is from a dime store of that era and is simply made. My mother-in-law graciously gave it to me after telling me about her love of it as a child. What a treasure to look at every Christmas!

I have a little mouse ornament that was given to me on my first Christmas. The mouse is dressed in a little jacket and holds a book of carols. He’s moved with me all over the world and has had a place of honor on every single tree.

My favorite decoration is a Christmas muff. My grandparents would make these muffs every year and put dollar bills inside them. These muffs would hang on the tree with our name on the tags.
After my grandparents passed away my parents would periodically put a muff on the tree. My brother, sister and I knew if there were muffs on the tree, there was money to be had.

I cherish every decoration as they come out of storage, but one of my absolute favorites is ornament I made when I was in preschool. It’s a little Christmas tree that was made with glue and string over a cone-shaped form. It’s a little abstract and my family laughs about it every year!
I love everything about Christmas….but I guess I would have to say that my favorite decoration would have to be the Christmas stocking:) It was always a tradition at our house to hang our stockings after the tree had been decorated. I had 3 younger sisters and we all had our nail in the mantle that would stay there all year waiting for the stockings to be hung…we all knew which one was “our” nail, and it was so exciting to hang them up. Although my parents are dead now, and the house has been sold to friends of the family, the nails holes are still there in that same old mantle today, 50 years later:) A wonderful memory for me:)

Our Mistletoad – It is a fabric toad we hang in the doorway – like mistle toe only it’s mistletoad. It makes me giggle inside everytime I see it. Its a good ice breaker when we have holiday parties.

I have a beautiful handmade Sugar Plum Fairy ornament with sequin, feathers and beads. She is rather artsy and doesn’t really match my more traditional ornaments but every year I smile when I unwrap her from her tissue paper bedding.

My favorite holiday decoration…hmm…hard to pick just one! I think it would have to be anything made out of vintage music paper! I make ornaments, tags, and I’m thinking I may make a garland of some kind this year. But I just ADORE the look of the vintage music paper…it has a rich look to it, even though it’s very neutral…and next to twinkling lights, it’s even more gorgeous.
My favourite holiday decorations are our Christmas stockings. My aunt made one for myself and my sister, then my sister and I made three for our three younger siblings. I have made one for each of my girls, and will make one next year for our new arrival expected in June! They are hand-sewn, appliqued felt Biblical scenes with our names at the top. I love them!

I have 2 very favorite Christmas decorations. First there is the 3 ft tall Vintage Snowman that I found a few years ago in an antique store. I used to put him on display in my shop window and every single day someone would ask to buy him. He had a sign that said, “Not for sale”, but they would ask anyway. When we recently moved I wrapped him in 2 old quilts in his box so he would not get broken. He is made of papier mache I believe.
My second favorite is my tiny little “Naked Santa”. I used to sell these in my shop and they were very popular. He is made of resin and he doesn’t show anything inappropriate,. He’s about 1 1/2 – 2″ tall and he hangs right on the front of the Christmas tree in a place of honor. I always get some pretty funny remarks about him from people who have never seen one before. (He has the cutest little butt crack!! LOL!!) I think everyone should have one!

My favorite decoration is our German Christmas village. My husband bought most of the pieces when he would travel to Europe for his job.
It’s so difficult to pick just one favorite! My grandma had a ceramic Christmas tree that had little plastic lights all over it….you would plug it in and the light would shine through the little holes (I’m sure these were very popular 30yrs ago) She made it in her ceramics class. Also, our stockings….all of them handmade by aunts, and grandmas. Our kids are just small, so it’s fun creating new ‘traditions’ and carrying on the old ones :-) Cherishing every minute of it!!

More beautiful gifts! My favorite decoration is the tree itself, primarily because the decorations tell a story of our 45 Christmases together. We didn’t have a tree the first year we were married, but we bought a box of ornaments — nothing fancy, but we have one left, and it is dated and is always on the tree. We had 25 addresses during 26 years in the military. Our ornaments tell the story of where we have lived and traveled, the friends we have known, and the ornaments we have made and received from special friends. It’s a rather eclectic tree, but it’s special to us all.

When my children were babies, my husband brought home a Christmas lamp with a spindle top and an inner and an outer rotating shade. We have had that plastic lamp for 40 years and it is still my favorite decoration. The children used to watch the circulating lamp rotate for hours. The santa and sleigh would fly past the window of the home depicted on the outer lamp shade and the fire would crackle in the fireplace. The lamp is just a cheap plastic thing but the memories it evokes make it my favorite!
My favorite is the tacky tree tinsel that no one really uses anymore. But as a young girl it was my absolute favorite thing about Christmas – I would hang it all over the house so that “everything was glittery and beautiful”!!

My favorite Christmas decoration is my collection of various creches. I, even, have one made by a lovely Amish craftsperson. It’s made in the Amish style – Mary wears a bonnet and Joseph wears a black Amish-style hat. None of the figures have faces.

A friend made me a set of gorgeous ceramic angels for Christmas one year quite some time ago. Each one looks like a member of our family. How special is that? They grace the top of my piano each year. I just love them!
I collect snowflake ornaments and have been since my first babes first xmas … I started her on a snowman theme and later her brother on reindeer. The collecting is the result of me having no ornaments at all when I left my parents home for university. I want my little’s to have something to take with them when they go – something that reminds them of home.

My favorite Christmas decoration is this (now) old and ratty looking polar bear dressed in some funky overalls and a santa hat. He has a little pocket in front and when I was a kid we hung him up at the end of November and every day in December he would have a little something for me. He hangs in our front room now and my boys love to stash things in his pocket
My favorite holiday decoration has to be trees. I have more than 10 trees throughout the house. My favorite this year is a vintage tree I made for my craft room. I use vintage light pink lace for the garland and made my own ornaments in a shape of dress forms with a lot of glitter and Eiffel towers as well.

My favourite ornaments are the handmade stockings that hang by our fireplace. My mom crocheted mine for me back in 1976 (in very fashionable Pepto Bismol pink and bright blue!). I have hung it every Christmas since then. When I married my husband, she made a stocking for him as well and, with the addition of each of our three children, came the addition of another stocking. When I look at those five stockings hanging by our fireplace, I can’t help but smile :)

My favorite Christmas Decoration is a grapevine snowman wreath I made for my daughter’s preschool class. I spray painted the vine wreaths, zip tied them together, cut a top hat in half, bought him a brand new plaid scarf, my husband cut two small branches for his arms for me,
I cut out felt mittens for his hands and had Harper’s class decorate “snowballs” to string between his arms.
It was a project of love, and even though I don’t get to keep him, every time I see him on their class door it makes me so proud and happy.

when i was a little girl, my auntie “annie” would make us a home-made advent every year. often it contained little found treasures, and beautifully stitched or knit gifts. over the years she made a lot of special things, but the one that stands out for me was a Christmas. all hand made with real wool and beautiful clothes. he is smallish, and the perfect weight and size for small arms to cradle..and he always comes out at Christmas and sits somewhere in our living room where my kids can enjoy him.

Favourite handmade would be the tree decorations my kids hve made, favourite natural would be the fresh fir boughs we hang over the doorways throughout our home during advent!
I love the decorations I made this year but my favourites that have to be on any tree are the silver ones I have had for as long as I can remember. I have a bird and a ball, they are filigree design and just lovely. I hang them up high at the moment as I would hate for my children to damage them but as they get older they will each get one.

My favorite holiday decoration is our Christmas tree! It has so much tradition as the ornaments were collected starting when my husband and I both grew up and we have continued to add ornaments each year for both of our children.
My favorite decoration is my “our first Christmas together” ornament that my husband and I bought together 10 years ago. We started dating on Dec. 2 of 2001, but I knew even before then that he would be my husband. By mid-Dec., we’d fallen head over heels in love and felt pretty comfortable shelling out the big bucks to buy a Waterford ornament that marked our first holiday together. I love looking at it and remembering that first Christmas together. It’s survived 2 moves, 3 kids, and lots of ups and downs!
My favorite holiday decoration has to be the angel my now husband gave me for our very first Christmas when we were dating. It goes on the top of our tree every year.

This may be a cop-out, but the Christmas tree itself is my favorite holiday decoration! I can’t wait until Thanksgiving is over so we can pick out a tree (same little lot every year!) and decorate it while drinking homemade cider. I love picking out a new ornament for each family member every year; our tree is a narrative for our family :)

My mom still has this ornament I made when I was a Brownie scout (I’m in my 30s now). It is an ice cream cone with a ball ornament glued to the top. The reason it’s my favorite is that the first year we had it hanging on a low branch and my little sister, who was probably about 1 at the time, took a giant bite out of the cone! My mom has all of the silly ornaments we made over the years and decorates her tree with them every year.
I leave my wooden nativity out all year long. But, it looks so beautiful when it is surrounded by the other Christmas decorations. And, love the soft white lights!
My favorite holiday decoration is a string of cards we put across the walls of our kitchen. I got the idea from my Mother in law and I think it’s beautiful, plus it reminds me of all the great people we know and it incorporates both holidays, since we are an interfaith family.
One of my mother’s ornaments that she had on her tree as a little girl. I think my Grammie must have let me have it when I was a little girl — it is a small plastic reindeer with a red nose (must be Rudolph). It doesn’t hang but just fits in the tree standing on a branch.
My favorite Christmas decorations are the handpainted village homes and stores a friend made for us. I love seeing them all lit up along the fireplace mantel (out of the reach of my toddler’s hands)!
The year I got married, my grandmother gave me the “bridal set” of ornaments from Old World. It is a set of 12 ornaments that “no newlywed couple should be without”. I love getting them out of their special box each year, and reading the meaning that each one has!

My favorite holiday decoration is the nativity scene that my grandfather made. He carved all of the figurines by hand. He has passed away, but it is now in my possession and currently being displayed under our tree. It makes me smile every time I look at it. :)
I have little hand made dough ornaments that my mom let my siblings and I paint when we were small. They are probably the rattiest looking things on my tree after all of these years (especially since the paint jobs were more enthusiastic than artistic to begin with), but they are still my favorite pieces to hang up every year!

My favourite decorations are the ones that we make each year of my children’s handprints/footprints. I make them out of Crayola Model Magic so that if they fall off the tree they won’t break like clay will…I always love taking them out of the box and seeing how much they have grown in a year :)

My favorite Holiday decorations would have to be our family’s ornaments. Every time we decorate the tree we are flooded with so many wonderful memories of different times, places and moments we shared together as a family. I also adore the holiday lights, and how the city is all a glow this time of year. It’s so magical. Last, but definitely not least is nature’s own lovely decoration, the freshly fallen snow. I just love how much more beautiful everything seems to look with a gorgeous blanket of white.

I have 2 favorites.
First is every year we decorate a paw-paw tree……wrap the branches in cotton, and string it up with blue lights….just like my Pap-paw did every Christmas.
My second favorite decoration is our Elf on the Shelf. Every morning my 2 kids race to see the new spot he’s in and what mischief he got into the night before….. He’s toilet papered our house, ate a box of chocolate, had a poker night with other Christmas decorations, made sugar snow angels, colored on the glass of baby pictures of the kids, dumped a box if cereal out on the floor, and brought some coal back from the North Pole. My kids love “Snowflake” and how mischievous he is!

My pickle ornament my husband got me for our first Christmas. The tradition is to hide the pickle in the tree and then everyone else tries to find it for a prize. We did this with my grandparents tree as kids, and my husband got us our own pickle so we can continue the tradition!

I was fortunate to have a grandfather that was a fantastic artist. I didn’t know it while he was still living, but soon found out as I became old enough to understand. He made wonderful paintings as well as ceramics. Every year I take pride in putting out the sleigh with Santa and his reindeer that he made on my fireplace mantel. It is something I look forward to every Christmas!

My favorite decoration is this sugar plum fairy ornament I got when I was about 8 yrs old. I was a sugar plum fairy in the local ballet and my mom found it at hallmark. The poor ballerina has been re-glued about 5 times since she keep breaking off. Now at about 25 yrs. old, she’s still my favorite.

I would have to say that my favorite Christmas decoration is my nativity. Each year my children get to take turns placing Baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas Eve. It’s a tradition that I hope they continue with their children one day.

my favorite holiday decoration is the tree-i love it ‘au naturel’ with just bazillions of lights. i always do the lights and leave it un-onamented for at least a few days. it makes the house feel like a magical woodland. try using green lights, it has a wonderful effect!!
It’s hard to say – I have 2 favorites really (even though neither lives at my house, but rather with my mom). One is a little pink house, decorated with snow and glitter, with a cat sitting in the window. We didn’t have a cat, nor was our house pink, but I always imagined it was our house, glowing in the snow. I also love the rubber chickens that we’ve used to decorate our family tree for years. Its a looooong story as to how *that* happened, but those unconventional ornaments always bring happy memories and a smile to my face.
My favourite decoration would have to be our retro red stockings (the fuzzy, cheap red ones with furry white trim). I even scrolled the names on the top with glitter glue just like the stocking I had as a kid.

My favourite holiday decoration is Christmas lights… I love seeing them everywhere — they make everything so cheery…. I do also love having my Christmas Angels around the house too :)
my favorite Christmas decoration is old photos of my husband and I with Santa when we were kids. we frame them all and put them on the mantle. Now that we have a toddler we have more pictures to add to our collage. It is a real conversation piece and so nostalgic of Christmases past!

My favorite holiday decorations are the collection of music boxes my aunt would give to us each year- my son loves to crank the music and watch them spin and dance. My aunt recently passed away, but these boxes are a way of having her with us this Christmas.

My favorite decorations are the angel ornaments that my stillbirth buddy group sent me in memory of my daughter who was stillborn on 9-19-09 at 26 weeks but was due on Christmas day. Memories and pictures are all I have so I really cling to them this time of year when she was due.

We have a beautiful real tree upstairs that is nice to look at and spells fabulous but the fun tree is the obviously artificial tree that we let the kids decorate with all of the ornaments that they’ve make, the fun ornaments that we’ve collected at our annual ornament exchange party, and our childhood favorites.

Oh Ilove that cute little doll! My favorite decorations have to be an old glass one that my mom gave me. She told me that she couldn’t remember when it wasn’t on her tree when she was little. It has to be over 65 years old. Our tree also has a small paper mache pipe cleaner Santa Claus that my husband made when he was small. I love all our ornaments – each one has a story.
Truth is I love all holiday decorations! But, if I have to pick one it is my ornament collection. Each one has a memory connected to it and l love getting them out and thinking back on all the years!

My favourite holiday decoration is my fresh evergreen table wreath with a fat honey scented beeswax candle in the centre. I adore the smell of the spruce and pine. It sends me back to being 5 years old and smelling the spruce tree that my grandparents brought us every year!
I would have to say my favorite holiday decoration is our christmas tree I love the lights glistening and all the tresured ornaments handmade and collected through the years I still after five children find myself staring in awe at our tree every year.

Hands down, the ornament we got last year. A pig with wings. It was the perfect addition to our tree because after 3.5 years of brutal infertility, we got to celebrate Christmas 2010 by going into the third trimester with our little girl. “When Pigs Fly” was the perfect ornament! This year, Bria is adding her own handprint to the tree!

My favorite holiday decoration every year is the tree. While I of course have many ornaments and trinkets dear to my heart, I know that with the inevitable passage of time (and especially with small children around the house) I can’t be too attached. However the process of getting and decorating a tree every year can’t be replaced as an opportunity for togetherness and happy memories. It always seems to look beautiful no matter what we put on it.

When my grandmother passed away, I was fortunate enough to inherit her Christmas ornaments. My favorite one- and the one thing I look forward to unwrapping every year- is a little plastic santa covered in some kind of fuzzy fake velvet. I remember it hanging on her tree every year and now it hangs on mine!

Well, I have two… the first is a small stuffed, fabric tree with my son’s photo sewn onto it. He made it in his first year of preschool, with the help of his lovely teachers, and although there have been several more ornaments made at school over the years, this one is special to me. The other is a clay, star shaped candle holder also made in preschool, by my other son. I think for me what makes them so special is the look in my kids eyes when they give them to us… they are so proud and excited to give you something that they have made, and to see them brought out year after year :)

I forgot to add my favorite holiday decoration. I have had pictures of my girls taken with Santa each year…I started putting those pictures together with other family pictures of myself when I was small taken with my brothers and sisters. I place each photo under the glass on an antique coffee table I found at a yard sale and it has become the best continuous memory table idea. Each year…though my daughters are now adults…they try to get pictures of themselves taken all together if they can make that happen and I also get pictures of my grandbabies taken with Santa…It is becoming a beautiful collage of pictures…I especially love the crying reactions to Santa and the ones where it looks like they adore Santa…Just depends on the child and the time in their lives…This pictures are priceless to me.

It is filled with names of children who without the help of others would not receive Christmas gifts. The joy, happiness, and huge smiles created when giving to others, especially those in need is the true meaning of Christmas. Having lost my mom when I was a teenager, I would have to say that her collection of German Christmas ornaments are my favorite decoration. My favorite holiday decoration is from when I was growing up. It’s an old elf doll, complete with dried apple head. His name was Zip and he arrived at our house on Dec 1, to be Santa’s eyes and ears. He moved around throughout the day and night, sometimes leaving footprints in the flour or powdered left on the counter from the day’s baking.
I have a little gold glass bird ornament with a tinsel tail that clips onto the tree. It was something I got to put on the tree each year for as far back as I can remember. It was passed to me and now it sits below our angel every year. It’s my most precious ornament.

Every ornament we have was carefully chosen by us or handmade for us so it’s hard to pick a favorite. If I have to choose one I will choose the little metal ornament that says “Baby’s 1st Christmas” only it’s not from my children but from my very first Christmas. It is so special to have that piece of my history right along side the ones for my daughters.

I was sure I commented on here but I can’t find it. I can’t find a favorite ornament. I have 4 kids and each year I would or do buy them a new one. Honestly my 1st son has some that were hand make for him. SO I would have to say it would be from his collection. Then my daughter has so many cool Barbies and one son has the Polar express train that makes sounds and the train runs, telling me all aboard to the Polar Express. One day all these will go home with them and I will be left with memories of these days.

My favorite holiday decoration is our nativity scene. Every year, I make sure it is the first thing I put up. I love that as the rest of my holly-jolly-Christmas sort of decor fills the house, the nativity scene presides over it all.
My favourite decoration would be our stockings. I chose them based on my missing childhood stocking. They are sooooo retro (and not in a shabby chic way). They are a lovely shade of red fake, spongey velvet and topped with white shaggy faux fur. I even scrolled our names down each one with glitter glue. They make me laugh. My favourite holiday ornament is a “bird ball”…a silver ball that chirps like a bird… I inherited it from my grandparents when they passed away. It brings back a lot of fond memories, and my kids now love it too.

Our FAVORITE holiday decoration is our Menorah. Our son came home from the NICU on the first night of Hanukah, and our daughter came home from the NICU on the last might of Hanukah (FOUR YEARS LATER!!!). Our miracle babies!!!

My favorite holiday decoration is the Christmas tree. We love to bring it out every year and share memories and stories of the ornaments.
My mom grew up in Depression times in South Dakota. Her tradition- which I also have adopted and adapted- is the “bare branch”. When out hunting for the Christmas tree we also cut a 4 to 5 foot bare branch from a deciduous tree. This branch is mounted horizontaly on the wall and I add glass icicles, old chandelier prisms, tiny crystal snowflakes and some years a faux Cardinal. Simple, but elegant – just like Mom.

I have two–I love the collection of ornaments that my husband and I made growing up–can’t believe our mothers would actually part with them! My favorite holiday decoration is a wooden Halloween wreath that I tole painted years ago. It’s made in 3 layers with several pieces of wood, a crescent moon on the left, a black cat on the right (they make up the “round” wreath shape) and then there are other pieces of wood that are the cat’s head, the moon’s hat, etc…
Other than all the precious things my little make me, would be what I JUST made. I have never been that crafty until very recently. So out of vinyl lettering, spray paint, and a GIANT canvas. I’ve made a Christmas subway sign for over my fireplace. No idea what I’m going to do with the rest of the year though!
My favorite holiday decoration is the special little santa my son made for me while he was in grade school. I always put it out when I decorate my house (which we finally did today), as it reminds me what a caring and loving son he is.

my favorite christmas decoration is an ornament I’ve had since I was about 8, it’s a tiny little mouse with huge ears holding a needle sitting inside a thimble, it’s the cutest darn thing and it takes me back to sweet childhood memories every time I put it up on our tree!
Old favorite: “My” ornament at my mom’s house. It’s ugly, really – just a metal ornament shaped like a puppy in a stocking, but I claimed it when I was little and unwrapping it always made me feel like it was really Christmas!

My favorite Christmas decorations are the needlepoint stockings my dad’s cousin has made for everyone over the years. When we go to my cousins house we always compare and talk about how amazing they are! I think she has made 30 something now!!! That is A LOT of needlepoint!!

I collect gingerbread decorations… A couple of years ago my Aunt Shirley gave me a boy and girl stuffed gingerbread couple. She had them for about 20 years and I had always sort of coveted them. They are sitting under my Christmas tree right now.

I look forward to having the lights/garland on the stairway. The bulbs are golden and the glow is just lovely. With a few poinsettias and cones interspersed, with a few glittery balls handing, it is truely lovely. I like to sit in the dark and just admire the lights of the season.

My favorite holiday decoration is my children. I know that sounds crazy, but in the family I grew up in Christmas was really nothing special. I received presents and we had a tree, but no traditions, decoration, lights, etc. My Mom told me when I was 3 the “truth” about the big man!! When I started a family of my own and saw the glow in my son’s eyes the first year he was old enough to understand Santa bringing him presents, I felt the “magic” of Christmas for the first time. I am so determined to make Christmas special for my little cherubs that we have an elf on the shelf, stockings hung from the chimnay with care, a tree decorated with our special angel on top and wreaths galore. But my favorite thing to see at Christmas is the bright smiles on my children’s pajamad faces as they race down the stairs to see that Santa has come !
My vintage glass Christmas Pickle. In Germany, the Christmas Pickle was the last ornament placed on the tree, and was hidden deep within the boughs. The child who found it on Christmas Day is said to have a year of good fortune ahead of them. I was gifted this ornament not so much because of the tradition, but rather my insane love of pickles.

All the Christmas cards we get in the mail, they themselves make a wonderful decoration to the house!
My favorite holiday decoration lives at my oldest son’s house now, having come from my grandmother, to my mother, to me and then to my oldest son is a most beautiful celluloid church that lights up even the spire and star on top. It has a music mechanism that my son has had apart to make it play once again and oh our surprise when it played Silent Night last year. It burns steadily on his fireplace mantel from the eve of Thanksgiving until the 1st day of January when it will be carefully packed away to wait for another Christmas Season.
My favorite ornament is this beautiful delicate glass ornament that my mother gave to me the year my daughter was born. My mother has since passed away at an early age. She didn’t get to see her grand kids graduate from school or college. She did not get to see what wonderful adults they have become so at Christmas it means so much to have it out.

Every year I take all of our Christmas cards and punch a 2 x 2 square out of each of them. I make a 12 x 12 collage with them and include a square with the year. I love hanging them every year. I can see our friends families growing. They provoke so many wonderful memories.
My favorite holiday decoration is the advent calendar at my parent’s house. It’s a tree made of a crummy acrylic felt and isn’t anything spectacular to look at, but I loved that I had sole responsibility for putting its ornaments on each day. As a young child, I felt so important!
